ABSTRACT

The appearance of a third edition of a work of this class, within six years, is sufficient evidence that it is appreciated as a valuable contribution, and also, in the present case, of marked advances in our knowledge of its subject. The present volume has been largely rewritten, some sections entirely, and very considerable changes have been made in its arrangement. New chapters have been written and a total of nearly 150 pages added to the volume over the preceding edition. The chapters on infectious diseases have been transferred to the general section of the work, from that of special diagnosis, and much new matter has been added. This can also be said of the whole section on general diagnosis, which fills some 400 pages as compared to less than 180 in the third edition.
