PROPOSED MEDICAL LEGISLATION IN ILLINOIS.

ABSTRACT

The State of Illinois, which was about the first to restrict unlimited license in medical practice, has come to be behind the majority of its sister commonwealths in this matter of requiring scientific qualifications in its medical practitioners, and the medical profession within its limits has suffered in consequence. To remedy the present state of affairs and to bring the State abreast of the more advanced opinion of the time new medical legislation is demanded, and a bill for "an Act to establish a State Board of Medical Examiners, prescribing its powers and duties, to provide for the licensing of practitioners of medicine and of midwifery, and to regulate the practice of medicine in the State of Illinois, and imposing penalties, and to repeal all acts or parts of acts (i.e., the present Medical Practice Act of Illinois) in conflict therewith," has been introduced into the Illinois State Senate by
