ABSTRACT

Surgeons of the National Guard, Ladies and Gentlemen: Every good citizen takes a just pride and a deep interest in the safety and prosperity of his country. His patriotism should bear a direct ratio to the degree of freedom and protection he enjoys and the richness of the natural resources within his reach. If freedom, protection, and prosperity are the elements which are productive of patriotism every citizen of the United States is or should be imbued with love and gratitude for his country and ready to defend it in times of danger. It is a great privilege to be a citizen of the greatest country on the face of the earth, and to belong to the most powerful and progressive nation in the world.
