St. Louis, Mo., April 11, 1898.

To the Editor:  —In Dr. Waxham's letter on the above subject in your issue of April 9, Dr. Waxham asks, and the question is a fair one, why no criticism was made on the reports of the serum treatment in two papers in your issue of February 5, "in which sixteen cases were reported, of which fourteen were chronic cases, having existed from one to eleven years," and suggests that it may have been because those reports were more favorable.It has been the practice of Messrs. Jno. T. Milliken & Co., on receiving first applications for serum, to caution the prospective users as to the limits within which claim is made for its usefulness. Dr. Waxham was himself so cautioned, for I find in my letter to him of Nov. 13, 1897, the following words: "Of course I need hardly say that its
