ABSTRACT

To the Editor:  —I have been interested in the correspondence pro and con on the proposed removal of The Journal from Chicago to Washington. Unless some very important personal interests are to be served, no tangible reason appears why the change should be made.One might have a certain National pride in the location of The Journal in Washington because it is the Capital of the Nation; but sentiment in such an enterprise should give way to utility. There are decided practical advantages in a great medical centre, which Washington can never have. It is a question whether the quality of The Journal would be satisfactory to the whole profession if it were made subject to the political and bureaucratic influences of the Capital.
