In the last letter a brief reference was made to the opening of the new Croton aqueduct; but this is a matter of so much importance to the health and prosperity of the community, that a more extended notice of this great undertaking may be of interest. The opening took place on the 15th of July, and was without public ceremonies, though the Mayor and other city officials were invited to be present when the water was first turned on at the big reservoir in Central Park. This is in marked contrast with the opening of the old Croton aqueduct, which was made the occasion of a general
