Chicago. 

Wood Sent to Jail.  —Dr. N. News Wood, of Christian Hospital notoriety, was sentenced to ten days in jail for contempt of court, December 30, and in addition he was fined $100 and the "hospital" $250, for violation of an injunction restraining them from using the name of Dr. John B. Murphy in connection with the establishment.

Chicago's Health in 1904.  —Dr. Arthur R. Reynolds, commissioner of health, reports that during the first eleven months of the year there had been a total of 23,959 deaths from all causes reported, with an annual death rate of 12.54 per thousand— as compared with a total of 25,999 and a rate of 15.15 per thousand during the corresponding period of 1903. Since then there has been a great increase of mortality and the total is swelled to 26,300 for the year 1904, with an annual rate of 13.61 per thousand.
