ABSTRACT

SERVICE PUBLICATIONS.  The surgeon general is required by law to transmit to Congress an annual report, containing a detailed account of the operations of the service for the previous fiscal year.The quarantine law of 1893 makes it the duty of the service, under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, to collect sanitary information from all quarters of the globe, and to publish and transmit this information to collectors of customs, state and municipal health officers, and other sanitarians. The sanitary condition of the world's ports is thus reported and published weekly in the Public Health Reports of the service. Tables and special reports showing the prevalence of epidemics and contagious diseases in the United States and foreign countries are also published weekly in the Public Health Reports.Supplements to the Public Health Reports and reprints from it are published by the service for distribution in
