ABSTRACT

An extended review of the subject-matter in this volume does not seem necessary. The original was published in 1904 and Dr. Bolduan's translation includes some recent contributions from Professor Ehrlich's institute as well as a new special chapter by Professor Ehrlich himself. The translation appears to be very satisfactory. The original volume was highly welcome to the numerous workers in the field of immunity, and the present translation places the experimental investigations that form the basis of Ehrlich's genial lateral chain theory of immunity within the ready reach of physicians and others who prefer to use the English language. It goes without saying that the book is indispensable to any such who may desire to go to the original sources in their study of fundamental problems in immunity.
