In the discussions on papers on tropical diseases before the Section on Practice of Medicine, at the recent session of the Association, particular attention was called to the amount of work which has been accomplished by American sanitarians in the various tropical countries that came under the domination of our government at the time of the Spanish-American war. Cuba has been entirely freed from the scourge of yellow fever, which had existed there for four centuries and was considered to be so firmly rooted in the country that its eradication was thought to be hopeless. In Porto Rico, the characteristic anemia, which for at least a century has been sapping the life and energy of the people, has been studied as never before, its true cause recognized, and the proper treatment for it evolved, so that now there is a prospect that before many years have passed this evil, too,
