Your committee, after having conducted an investigation of the present status of methods of throat culturing for the diagnosis of diphtheria, has elected to submit the accompanying report of progress with the recommendation that the committee be continued, with authority to investigate the subject further during the ensuing year.

The work of the committee has been thus far confined to the collection and study of data furnished by public health laboraories in which routine bacteriologic diagnosis of diphtheria is regularly performed. With this object in view, a large out. The information thus collected has been studied with the view of the ultimate recommendation of standard procedures in so far as this is possible. It does not seemedesirable, at this time, that a complete culture outfit be recommended for adoption by the Section, or that a standard laboratory technic be outlined.
