—The principles of producing the square knot which Drs. Quain and Steedly published are identical with those we recently gave. Our application of these, which by the way is merely composed of the movements which have long been employed to form the well known "crochet knot," is less cumbersome than Dr. Quain's. Further, we have given the information necessary to obtain a knot which has two turns in each half, which some surgeons deem very important.The article that appeared in The Journal, April 8, 1911, was written over three years ago, since which time it has been lying on the shelf. It was devised, written, and published without the slightest knowledge of any other person's work. I compliment these other authors on their ingenuity and ask your pardon if this occurrence
