ABSTRACT

At the present time the legislative bodies of many of the States are in session, and before several of them are bills or forms of law designed by their authors to better regulate and foster the education and practice of the medical profession. None of these bills are so framed as to produce with reasonable efficiency all the practical results for which they are intended, and no two of them agree in their essential details. In a great country like this, divided into forty-two States, and yet permitting the utmost freedom of intercourse and of migration from one State to another, it is exceedingly desirable that the laws regulating the education and practice of professional men should be so nearly alike in their essential provisions, that a license obtained in one State should be recognized by the licensing authorities of every other State.
