This monograph, the result, according to the author's statements, of seventeen years of investigation, bestows on the leucocyte a much more independent rôle than is commonly conceded to it. The conception of a "leucopathy," i. e., of primary modifications in the activities of the leucocytes (secretion, motility, organ infiltration, etc.) is created and a new nomenclature invented that is intended to express these special perversions. The introduction of many new terms and of the hypothetical pathologic conceptions they are meant to illustrate renders the understanding of the volume difficult. The author speaks an unfamiliar language; his disquisition may contain a valuable diamond of truth, but it is very much obscured by the setting given to it.
