This simple device will appeal to many a country practitioner, especially for obstetric work. A small wad of cotton or gauze is tied up with a piece of string (like a tampon) and the end of the string is passed through the neck of a common funnel and tied in place outside. The anesthetic is dropped on the cotton as required. The amount of cotton or gauze should vary, depending on whether it is desired to use the anesthetic by the drop method or to saturate the pad. The patient can hold the cone herself, and, therefore, there is no possibility of giving too much anesthetic. I have found this simple arrangement very satisfactory in a great number of cases.
