Little of practical value appears in the literature before Oraison's report, in 1903, of twenty-three cases. Ten, or 43 per cent., of the patients were well after four years, 4 died from the operation, and 3 had recurrence. Young, in the following year, gave his report of 6 cases of total extirpation, resulting in 3 patients well after eleven and twelve months, respectively. Two died as a result of the operation and one following litholapaxy nine months later. A small area of cancerous tissue was found, however, in the pelvis at autopsy. Watson and Cunningham cite Fuller and Czerny's results in two cases of enucleation. Each patient had recurrence, but lived for eleven and nine months, respectively. From a consideration of these results they assert that we are not justified in attempting the operation of extirpation as practiced by Young. Previous articles have been résumés
