In a late issue of the New Orleans Medical and Surgical Journal Dr. George H. Searcy1 states that since he reported on pellagra to the Alabama State Medical Association last year he has visited nearly all the southern states and many of the southern state insane hospitals and is convinced that pellagra prevails in all parts of the south. Physicians tell him that it has only been within the last decade that they have observed any such disease, and he himself believes that it must be on the increase. So far as we are aware there have been no reports of it as yet from any of the northern states, even those where maize is extensively cultivated and used for food and where it might be looked for with as much a priori probability of finding it as farther south.
