Antiseptic Midwifery.
—In a report by Dr. K. Inoieffs of the work done in the Lying in Institution in connection with the Golitsinski Hospital, in Moscow, for the year 1886, the advantage of antiseptic midwifery, which is strictly carried out there, is evident, as out of 541 cases there were but two deaths. Some of the statistics, which are very carefully kept, may be of interest. The largest number of births occurred, as it is popularly believed they do, at night, 145 taking place between midnight and 6 A.M.; the numbers corresponding to the remaining three-quarters of the twenty-four hours being 131 from 6 A.M. to noon, 107 from noon to 6 P.M., and 144 from 6 P.M. to midnight.
