ABSTRACT

—The stand taken by the Nebraska State Medical Society in regard to the admission of members, as indicated in the letter of Dr. Mansfelde in the preceding number of this journal is highly commendable. If it were taken by every State and local medical society in our country, and the conditions named faithfully exacted, it would soon bring a marked improvement, more especially in the preparatory or general education of those who propose to enter upon the study of medicine, which is really more important so far as regards the standing and usefulness of the profession than any other one item connected with its education. Forty years since we urged this subject upon the attention of State and local medical societies with all the ardor of youth. We then claimed that it was the duty of the profession at large to erect and enforce a proper standard of general education
