This is a successful revision of a multiauthor text designed to serve as a reference on neurogenetic disorders and the molecular basis of neurologic diseases. The editors have done an excellent job of assembling a collection of expert authors, and the quality of individual chapters is high.
The majority of chapters are devoted to monogenic entities and summarize succinctly the clinical features, biochemistry, and genetics of the disorders under discussion. In the great majority of these chapters, the quality of writing is excellent, and the reference lists are extensive. These chapters are valuable reviews of their topics and are the core of the book. A number of chapters move beyond discussion of monogenic disorders. There are excellent sections on mitochondrial disorders and prion diseases.
