This book is a companion volume to the primary author's previous book for parents. It covers symptom evaluation and essentially, "when to call the doctor." The current book assumes that a diagnosis has been made and reviews both home treatment and specific pharmacologic therapy for a variety of common childhood diseases and disorders. The first section of the book is an overview of drug efficacy, safety, and use, including techniques of administering medication to children and the problem of compliance. This is followed by a brief section on health maintenance issues and a major section on therapeutic approaches to a wide spectrum of childhood ailments. The final section alphabetically lists medications by generic name and includes pertinent information such as indications, dosage, and side effects.
Several general themes concerning medication are stated at the beginning of the book and set the tone for the succeeding discussions of common ailments. Prescription
