This book was designed to provide first-year medical students and paramedical personnel with a complete background in pulmonary physiology sufficient to understand clinical medicine.
Each chapter begins with a series of objectives. Suggested readings for each chapter are appended at the end of the book, along with a few selected study questions.
The manuscript is interestingly organized along the lines of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute care curriculum with regard to a major topic. The objectives, however, are more detailed and expanded in number. The format is designed for easy reading and study. This volume includes most subject material that a first-year student might need, but the explanations are often very brief.
As one checks through the book, universally taught topics are mentioned: anatomic and physiological dead space are covered in five pages, while closing volume is reviewed in 1 1/2 pages of script. The response to exercise
