Errors occurred in the Letter to the Editor entitled "Lung Cancer That Is Not Attributable to Smoking," published in the May 12, 1989, issue of The Journal (1989;261:2635-2636). On page 2635, column 3, the second tabulation, the values for white and black women should have read "5.8 [not '7.6']" and "6.8 [not '8.8']," respectively. The paragraph immediately following the second tabulation should have read as follows: "If these estimates are accurate, only colon and prostate cancers in men (mortality rates, 21.4 and 23.5 per 100 000, respectively) and colon, breast, and pancreas cancers in women (15.7, 27.3, and 7.3 per 100 000, respectively) had higher mortality rates than did non—smoking-attributable lung cancer for both blacks and whites.4"
