ABSTRACT

An error occurred in the Original Contribution entitled "Competition, Regulation, and Hospital Costs, 1982 to 1986," published in the November 11, 1988, issue of The Journal (1988;260:2676-2681). On page 2680, in the first column, the last sentence of the second paragraph should have read as follows: "They indicate that public hospitals experienced rates of cost inflation 11.7% higher than private nonprofit hospitals, while investor-owned hospitals experienced inflation rates 12.8% [not '26%'] higher than public hospitals and 26.0% higher than private nonprofit hospitals."
