ABSTRACT

In Reply.—  I am aware of the pathophysiological mechanism that Dr Meyer describes and of the value of the dental splint in correcting this problem when it is painful or persistent. However, I have observed that the majority of patients who have minimal trauma associated with the onset, who are seen early, and who are free of pain enjoy recovery without the expense, loss of time, and inconvenience of this treatment. This includes the original questioner, who was kind enough to write to tell us that he had enjoyed a complete recovery with conservative management.
