Carlotta M. Rinke, MD, has been chosen recipient of the fourth Dr Morris Fishbein Fellowship in Medical Journalism at the American Medical Association to begin in September.
Rinke will complete a three-year residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in July.
A 1977 graduate of St Louis University School of Medicine, Rinke writes short stories as a hobby. During her second year of medical school she wrote a scientific paper concerning her own research on pregnant dogs and their metabolism of radioactive dihydroepiandrosterone. She presented the paper at a research forum and won fourth place.
Rinke's future plans include taking a residency in dermatology in New York City, ultimately working on the editorial board of the AMA's Archives of Dermatology, establishing a practice, and at the same time taking a part-time position on a medical journal.
