This is the seventh volume of the Ciba collection of medical illustrations, a series with which most physicians are familiar. As do other volumes in the series, it features the superb medical illustrations of Dr Frank Netter. If there is a negative side to the publication, it is that the beauty and clarity of the illustrations detract one's attention from the text. This, if it occurs, is unfortunate, because the text is as good as the pictures and often is even more informative. This volume on the lung was written by an outstanding group of contributors and would serve as a fine general textbook on pulmonary medicine.

My chief criticism of this book is that many of the drawings are unnecessary and contribute little or nothing to an understanding of the subject matter. The illustrations I question are for the most part those that are meant to illustrate the clinical
