ABSTRACT

This is a book written mostly by children who have leukemia, cancer, or serious brain damage. I saw excerpts from it in a lay magazine (OK, I admit it, Reader's Digest) and immediately ordered a copy.

There is very little text. For the most part the book consists of pictures drawn by the children, expressing various aspects of their illnesses. A few cartoons were done by a professional cartoonist; one gets the impression that he may have joined the group to help stimulate them as cartoonists. His drawings are all right for a grown-up's, but of course the children's drawings are more powerful.

The text tells how the children used their art to think about their diseases, to express their wishes and fears, and to keep their hopes and dreams alive.
