This section of the Education Issue of JAMA contains information on graduate medical education in the US, Puerto Rico, and the Canal Zone. Graduate medical education programs in Canada are approved by the Canadian Medical Association or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
The 1978-1979 Directory of Residency Training Programs contains a list of residency programs accredited by the Liaison Committee on Graduate Medical Education (LCGME) as of June 30, 1978. This directory also includes the "General Essentials" for a residency program, as well as the "Special Requirements" for each specialty.
