There are two good reasons not to write this column: (1) I hesitate to add to the tons of tiresome verbiage that have been published on geriatric problems, and (2) at least half the people who read this will become angered. But I am encouraged by a remarkable document that has come across my desk: Civil Action No. 2465-72, in which one Martin O. Weisbrod is the plaintiff and James T. Lynn, the Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, is the defendant. The case has to do with a challenge to the constitutionality of the Federal Employee Mandatory Retirement Law, 5 USC 8335.
The American Medical Association (AMA) has taken a firm position on behalf of Mr. Weisbrod.
Bernard D. Hirsh, General Counsel for the AMA, has filed an amicus curiae brief in support of the plaintiff's motion. I believe it is a landmark document, an eloquent
