Though some would color these times dark, one of the redeeming facts of global 1970 is that we are increasingly indebted to more and more persons, not only to those with whom we have faceto-face contact each day, but perhaps even more so to those whom we meet seldom if ever, but whose lives benefit ours repeatedly. This time of year, the harvest season, has been traditionally set aside for such reflection.
In 1969 we called upon some 750 physicians plus a number of other experts in various fields to assist us in reviewing one or more manuscripts submitted to The Journal As is customary, their names are known only to the editors and God, but their generosity was such that the number of manuscripts returned to us with inadequate review can be counted on only a few fingers.
