To the Editor.—
Shame on Hilda Slive for her boner in the story about the cover on the July 4 issue (238:6, 1977). Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and not of the Constitution. He was in France as US minister in 1787 and returned only in 1789 to become President Washington's secretary of state. He had nothing to do with writing the Constitution. But carved inside the dome of the Jefferson Memorial is another of his writings, which should be a source of inspiration for all: "I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."
