To the Editor.—  In his letter, Dr. Kenneth B. Olson pleads the case for increased support of tumor registries (225:1533, 1973). I would like to add my voice in support.Our article was indeed indebted to the services of the tumor registry.1 The base line data on survival of all lung cancer cases would not have been obtainable in any other fashion. The former report from that institution was in 1954.2 No amount of chart review could have located those 411 cases with 22% five-year survival from which we assumed that our control group of 34 with an 18% five-year survival was a representative sample.The value of the registry extended beyond normal data collection, and was implemented by scanning obituaries of local newspapers, contacting all outstanding cases yearly and knowing many of the patients and their families personally.I would like to correct one statement of Dr.
