The key word in the title is "managing." This book is basically a management guide for the modern hospital laboratory and especially for the laboratory director. While there are eleven contributors, most of the book was written by Dr Lundberg, and he brings to the task his experience of many years in directing the laboratory services of one of the largest county hospitals in the country. This experience is rich in providing efficient, high quality laboratory services and, in this sense, it is "patient-focused." Patients are undoubtedly much better served by efficient, well-managed, high quality laboratories than by poorly managed, inefficient ones.
