ABSTRACT

Grinker's Neurology has been one of a small group of well-esteemed neurological textbooks since it was first published in 1934. The present seventh edition has been edited and in good measure rewritten by Dr Nicholas Vick. The gratitude Dr Vick expresses to his wife for her patience is well deserved—a task of this order must have taken much of Dr Vick's time.

A few vital statistics: the book has 1,086 pages, including a bibliography and an extensive index of 60 pages. There are nearly 400 illustrations as well as a small number of tables. The typesetting and book cover are pleasant. The weight of the book—more than 2 kg—precludes bedtime reading, and the price will unfortunately preclude personal ownership for many.

The outline of the work follows certain conventions: an extensive first chapter introduces the neurological examination in which the reader is told how to perform the individual steps involved
