We were interested to read recently in The Journal (208:2163, 1969) the account by Paul et al of the patient whose adenocarcinoma of the lung had metastasized to the great toe of the left foot. They commented on the rarity with which malignant tumors metastasize to the foot, as they had found only 13 such cases previously described in the literature.Recently a patient of ours was found to have a papillary moderately well-differentiated transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder with metastases to the left talus as well as the left, first, second, third, and fourth metatarsals, and the presence of the metastases was confirmed at postmortem examination.
Report of a Case:—
The patient was an 87-year-old woman, who was admitted to Mile End Hospital, London in June 1969. Two years before admission the patient had had an episode of hematuria but refused to have any
