The Immune System arose from the lectures given at the Advanced Course sponsored by the Department of Immunology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London. It has four major divisions: immunochemistry, immunobiology, immunogenetics, and immunopathology. Each major division has several sections, each of which deserves its own monograph for full exposition. However, the editors have chosen to flex their editorial muscle, keeping firm rein on the contributions, and have produced a volume that is lucid yet densely packed with fact. In the space of one or two pages, they succinctly present information that might otherwise take a dozen or more. Yet, despite this evident control, the style of the individual remains apparent.
