The American Medical Association has long had concern for and interest in the profession of nursing. In that connection, the July issue of The American Nurse, an official publication of the American Nurses' Association, quoted a resolution adopted by AMA's House of Delegates at the 1976 Annual Convention as follows.
Resolved, that the American Medical Association encourage nursing schools, the American Nurses' Association, the National League for Nursing, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals to seek a revision of the curricula of all schools of nursing to provide a greater emphasis on clinical nursing; and be it further
Resolved, that nursing positions of responsibility in hospitals be filled on the basis of ability and performance regardless of academic degree.
