Complete saucerization of tissue overlying the nail beds and margins, curettage of the radix, and the electrocauterization of the radix particularly at its corners assure nonregeneration of the nail. Spicules of nail regrew in about 2% of nails so treated. They were avulsed and their source recauterized, with no subsequent regrowth while under observation.
