April will see the debut of a new AMA publication—a socioeconomic magazine that surely will outshine the efforts of others who have attempted to inform physicians about social and economic issues in the changing world of medicine. Naming the publication Prism, the editors mean to extend the readers' senses, to provide a comprehensive spectrum of thoughts. Thus, it will not be an AMA party-line magazine. Rather, Prism will welcome reasoned controversy and will publish articles that will frequently be at variance with existing AMA policies.
Prism will be a "smart" magazine, 27.5×27.5 cm, dressed by captivating covers and abundant four-color illustrations, professionally written, and ever mindful of "the street-corner world that crackles with the sights, sounds and smells of sentient people." In their "Statement of Intent," Prism editors continue, "To maximize our editorial scope so that we can provide true perspective, we will frequently reach out beyond the usual domains
