Believing that overweight and its camp followers, diabetes, hypertension, strokes, and heart disease constitute the greatest enemies of the American people, I cannot help but rise in protest to the obvious attempts by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) dictators, by their "staged reports," to remove from the medical armamentarium anorexiants, used so successfully by thousands of American physicians as an aid to patients wishing to lose weight.That the amphetamines can and are being abused is not denied. Any drug can be abused and will be by some. However, it has been my experience in more than 20 years of practice, that the amphetamines, when used correctly, enjoy a position unexceeded by any other drug in helping the patient to lose weight, where otherwise he simply would not.
