Catholic Medical School Dilemmas

ABSTRACT

To the Editor:—  The Journal article entitled, "Catholic Medical School Dilemmas" included the Marquette School of Medicine (207: 28, 1969).On Sept 30, 1967, the Articles of Association of the Marquette University School of Medicine were altered so that the medical school became a corporation legally distinct from the corporation of Marquette University. At that time the name of the medical school was legally changed from Marquette University School of Medicine to Marquette School of Medicine, Inc. Provisions of the articles of incorporation whereby the 15-member board of directors of the medical school included five members appointed by the President of Marquette University were eliminated. New articles of incorporation were adopted whereby all members of the board of directors were elected by the board. The new corporation is an autonomous, self-perpetuating corporation. The new medical school board is empowered to set all standards in the medical school and to confer degrees.
