To the Editor:—
The question on exertional eosinopenia answered by Donald L. Donohugh, MD (207: 375, 1969), does not mention a publication which may be of interest to the inquirer, Frank Minerva, MD, of Fort Ord, Calif. This is "Reaction of the Adrenal Cortex to Physical and Emotional Stress in College Oarsmen" by Albert E. Renold, MD; T. B. Quigley, MD; Harrison E. Kennard, MD; and George W. Thorn, MD (New Eng J Med244:754, 1951).This publication was, as far as I know, the first study of circulating eosinophils in athletes, but after 18 years is now perhaps considered as only of historical interest.
