In the 1966 Education Number, there were identified several studies and reports which appeared likely to have major impact on medical education in the years to come. A rather unusual coincidence of professional and public concern had resulted in the appearance of these reports within a short span of time.
Only time and circumstances will determine the effect of these and similar events on the future of medical education. At least of equal significance is the increasing influence of various segments of federal legislation now existing or proposed for the future.
There are now more than 40 federal laws which have direct or indirect effect on medical schools, in most instances providing some kind of financial support.
