Hormones and Connective Tissue

The action of hormones on connective tissue is an important topic. It is disagreeable to have to report that, in the opinion of this reviewer, this book does not measure up to the subject. Omnibus authorship is the characteristic disease of modern texts, but inasmuch as the present authors are all, according to the preface, affiliated with the University of Copenhagen, it is unfortunate that the distinguished editor did not exercise tighter control over his contributors. Furthermore, the chapter arrangement appears to be based on some principle of pure randomization. An introductory chapter which would have placed the connective tissues in a rational setting as to composition and organization would have helped a little. As it is, not until page 224 is it made apparent that connective tissues actually include cells, fibers, and ground substance.
