Dr. Valerija B. Raulinaitis has been appointed chief of staff at the Downey Veterans Administration Hosital near Chicago. Dr. Raulinaitis is the first woman to become chief of staff at one of the VA hospitals. The Lithuanian-born psychiatrist will succeed Dr. A. E. Harvey who recently was named director of the VA hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Dr. Raulinaitis has been on the Downey staff since 1954, and for some years was in charge of the Women's Neuropsychiatric Service. For the past two years she has been unit chief of a new treatment program being tested by the VA. Under this program, patients remain in the same patient groups throughout their hospital stay, rather than move through various groups of regressed or improved patients.
