This is the first of a series of annual publications dealing with current psychiatric therapy. Efforts have been made to present each subject in clear and easily readable form. The volume is of convenient reference size and is reasonably priced. There are 40 contributors to this collection of 28 works. The works are presented under 8 general sections which include: preventive psychiatry; child and adolescent psychiatry; psychophysical methods; psychoanalysis; couples and groups; clinic, institution, and community; after-care programs; and review and integration.
The chapters are short and to the point. Particularly outstanding in this regard are the chapters, "Present Status of Child Psychiatry," "Campus Psychiatry," and "An Adolescent Treatment Service in a State Hospital." The book also includes a résumé of current psychopharmacology. The résumé divides drugs into 3 categories—stimulants, drugs that decrease reactivity, and behavior-disrupting drugs.
