ABSTRACT

To the Editor:—  I should like to elaborate on the answer given by Dr. Fowler for the Question and Answer regarding the external auditory canal (JAMA 176:1066 [June 24] 1961). I am fully in accord with what he has said, but believe that it should be pointed out that the temperature of the water which is used to lavage the ear canal should be approximately body temperature. It is quite possible that the reader would think that warm water might by 105°F., and this, of course, would probably give the patient a caloric response with dizziness and possibly nausea and vomiting.
