A new format of our Medical News section appears in this issue of The Journal. In planning and designing this section, the editorial staff has considered the mission of these items, which has varied somewhat since The Journal was established nearly 80 years ago. News briefs are presented in this issue under departmentalized headings to provide the readers with information regarding national meetings, fellowship awards, foreign activities, travel, and other newsworthy items. State news has been grouped by regions, which include Pacific Coast, Mountain States, Midwest, Southwest, South, and Northeast. Latin American and other foreign news as well as Examinations and Licensure will continue under separate headings.
Sectional maps—visual identification for regional groupings—break the monotony of straight lines in the section devoted to Regional state activities.
