The purpose of this article is to describe the clinical manifestations, development, and treatment of some of the undesirable sequelae which sometimes follow subtotal gastric resection. They include the "dumping" syndrome, postprandial hypoglycemia, loss of weight, diarrhea, anemia, gastroileal fistula, marginal ulcer, gastrojejunocolic fistula, failure of the gastric remnant to empty, the afferent loop syndromes, jejunal obstruction due to herniation internally between the peritoneal rings, rupture of the duodenal stump, leakage at the "corner of sorrow," and stasis in a long afferent loop.
